The Maine Master Florist certification program consists of a series of course work focusing on advanced elements and principles of floral design. This course of study emphasizes floral compositions that are complex in theory and design. Graduates must pass academic and actual design tests in order to attain Maine Master Florist certification. Maine Master Florists must actively maintain their certification year after year by demonstrating continued involvement in floral design trends and advanced design programs, via Maine State Florist and Growers Association approved methods. There are less that 50 MMF certified floral designers in the State of Maine. Lisa is the only Maine Master Florist currently designing within 25 miles of the greater Waterville region.
Annually, the Maine State Florist's and Grower's Association sponsors a "Maine State Floral Designer of the Year" competition, open to all floral designers statewide. The judging criteria follow the format used by the Internationally recognized American Institute of Floral Design, in the areas of: color, mechanics, balance, scale, proporition, overall creativity, focus, and more. MSFGA is a very active organization, and often, the judging panel consists of national and internationally recognized desigers from across the country. Entrants must submit one fresh floral design for judging. Top finalists are then selected to design 'on the spot' for judging. Lisa Lagrange, owner of K.M.D. Florist, have been active in design competition since the last '90's, and has won the Designer of the Year title three time to date, in 2000, 2002, and 2005. Also in 2006, Lisa was recognized by the MSFGA, with the distinction of "Member of the Year" for her activity in industry events during the preceeding calander year, and her efforts to promote local floristry excellence in the State of Maine. |
